The Rookery is bringing musicians and music lovers together for a jam session and showcase gig at Jimmy’s on Easter Sunday, April 21st 2019.
Born out of a desire to make more music happen in their local area, The Rookery was formed in Bolton by founders Joey Swindells and Robert Nugent. The idea they had was to host events that allowed attendees to create music with likeminded fellow music lovers in a creative and inclusive environment, whilst also showcasing the talents of local bands and artists.
They are now based in Newcastle and Manchester. They have been hosting events of this nature in the northeast for over two years. Having developed a loyal community of regular attendees in Newcastle, The Rookery expanded their operations into Manchester at the start of the year and has been hosting monthly events in Manchester across the city in venues such as Gullivers and The Castle Hotel.
On April 21st, Easter Sunday, The Rookery will host their biggest event in Manchester to date at Jimmy’s in the Northern Quarter. The event will run from 1PM to 11PM, the jam session will be 1PM – 5PM and the showcase gig 7PM – 11PM.
The jam session is an open forum for musicians of any level to come and revel in the art of playing with others. As organiser Joey Swindells explains, “We always, always start with a jam session; it gives people that are learning to play (and more experienced players), who have no one to play with, the chance to play in a relaxed, no pressure environment.”
A showcase gig, featuring talented acts from Manchester and Newcastle, follows this. So far the line-up includes local band Shallow Waters and two of Newcastle’s most exciting up and coming bands: Kahuna and Twist Helix. Alongside these three bands there is an as yet unannounced headline act.
