We take a look at some of the songs making waves across the globe this week.
Rae Morris – Rose Garden
On her incredible second album Someone Out There, Rae Morris proves that punchy pop is where she really shines. It is on ‘Rose Garden’ however where we see Morris at her most experimental and exciting. Including jarring electronic production that wouldn’t sound out of place on the new Bjork album, the track’s peaks and troughs are a highlight of not only the song, but the entire album. The synth heavy crescendo is a bold step in a new direction for Rae, but one that is executed with undeniable confidence.

Let’s Eat Grandma – Hot Pink
The Let’s Eat Grandma girls muse over gender politics with a little help from PC Music’s SOPHIE and Farris Badwan from The Horrors. A collaboration we definitely did not expect, but one that has never felt so right.

Chvrches – Get Out
Chvrches have recruited super-producer Greg Kurstin (Adele, Beck, Sia) for the lead single from their long awaited third album. This is pop so polished it almost hurts your eyes a little. Although the squeaky-clean production of the track makes for a pleasant listen, hopefully future releases will make a few more sonic risks.

Insecure Men – I Don’t Wanna Dance (with My Baby)
This shimmering piece of indie pop is playful, kitsch and almost sickeningly sweet. The track has a timeless feel to it and the woozy synths are as catchy as they are odd. There’s something almost cartoony to the song and it completely works.

Nilüfer Yanya – Thanks 4 Nuthing
Nilüfer Yanya’s psychedelic soul landed her a place on the BBC Sound of 2018 longlist and tracks like ‘Thanks 4 Nuthing’ show how deserving she was of her spot. Yanya’s bitterness is palpable through her superb vocal; her delivery of “Let’s be honest” is subdued and really quite heart-breaking. Here’s hoping Nilüfer Yanya has a ‘Sigrid’ moment in 2018 because she absolutely deserves one.
